Numerical and Experimental Studies of Spectral Unfolding. Volume I.

Abstract

An experimental test of unfolding codes has been developed. This test consisted of measuring a neutron response matrix, and then a neutron spectrum by two different methods simultaneously, time-of-flight (TOF) and pulse-height unfolding, using the same detector. The structure in the spectra was varied by using different filters in the incident beam from the Linac pulsed source. Three filters and two different size NE-213 detectors (2-inch and 5-inch cylindrical) were used to obtain data to test two unfolding codes, FERDOR and the MAZE 1 code which was developed as part of this program. The agreement between the appropriately smoothed TOF spectra and the FERDOR unfolded spectra was generally very good. (Author)
