The Electrostatic Control of Plasma Microinstabilities.

Abstract

Optimal control theory is applied to the problem of controlling electrostatic microinstabilities in a homogeneous electron plasma. The electrostatic microinstabilities are described by a linear integro-differential system of equations, the linearized Vlasov equations. In the class of additive distributed controls, a time varying electrostatic control produced by a control charge density is taken as a logical extension to the system equations. (Author)
