An Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of the Odd-Parity Spectrum of the Cl34 Nucleus.

Abstract

An experimental and theoretical study of the odd-parity states in Cl34 has been made to identify major components of the 1d(3/2)-1f(7/2) and 1d(3/2)-2p(3/2) spectra. Resonances in the S33 (p, gamma) Cl34 reaction at proton energies of 1058, 1098, and 1121 keV were investigated using an 80 cc Ge(Li) detector. A revised Q-value, Q = 5139.9 plus or minus 0.9 keV, and the excitation energies of fourteen bound levels, 2.3 MeV < or = E sub x < or = 4.7 MeV, were obtained, and decay schemes of the three resonance levels and eleven odd-parity bound states were deduced from the gamma-ray spectra. The spins of several odd-parity levels were also determined. A six-particle shell-model calculation yielding energies and wavefunctions of odd-parity levels in mass-33 and mass-34 nuclei was also performed. (Author)
