CRT Graphics Consoles - An Aid to Selection.

Abstract

Computer driven, on-line, cathode ray tube devices i.e. CRT graphics consoles, have only recently made the transition from the 'research and development stage' to the user-oriented environment. The wide range and variety of consoles, costs, capabilities, and performance require that the console buyer intelligently and discriminatingly select the display and features which best meet his requirements for the least overall cost. To assist in the selection of such a console is the purpose of this report. Included in the report is information which will explain the technology-the 'how and why'-behind graphic CRT displays, describe basic display capabilities, terminology, functions and relative merit and comparatively discuss display techniques and devices. Finally, a current listing (as of 1 Oct 70) of specific displays, capabilities and costs is provided. (Author)
