Ethylene-Propylene Rubbers as Antiozonants.

Abstract

The primary purpose of the work was to define the extent of usefulness and limitations of ethylene-propylene copolymer and terpolymer rubbers (EP) as antiozonants for diene elastomers. A secondary objective was to learn the mechanism whereby these rubbers protect. Vulcanizates were prepared based on blends of EPM and EPDM rubbers with SBR (emulsion and solution), NBR, cis-trans polybutadiene and natural rubber and their resistance to ozone cracking determined. Peroxide, radiation, and sulfur cures were investigated. (Author)
