Full-Scale Wind Tunnel Investigation of the Advancing Blade Concept Rotor System

Abstract

A 40-foot-diameter ABC (coaxial) rotor system was tested in a 40 ft x 80 ft wind tunnel. The six rigid blades were instrumented to measure flatwise, edgewise, and torsional strain. Advance ratios up to 0.91 and tip Mach numbers to 0.83 were tested. Lateral displacement of individual rotor lift was varied. The performance, control, stress, and vibration data recorded during these tests are presented and discussed.
