Automatic Offset-Reflection Pole Figure Plotter.

Abstract

To facilitate the study of sheet metal textures, an automatic plotter has been developed and constructed for use with X-ray diffraction apparatus to produce pole figures of sheet speciments directly. The exposed plane may be either the rolling plane or a plane inclined to it at 54.7 degrees. The instrument provides plots of the intensity of diffracted X rays in terms of symbols representing eight levels on a stereographic projection referred to the rolling plane of a sheet. The data necessary to produce a quadrant of a pole figure are obtained and plotted in three hours. After completion of data plotting, contour lines are drawn manually between like symbols. (Author)
