Determination of Picogram Amounts of Technetium in Environmental Samples by Neutron Activation Analysis.

Abstract

A procedure for the determination of picogram amounts of 99Tc in filter paper and vegetation samples has been developed. The procedure consists of the following major steps: Pre-irradiation separation of technetium from the sample and purification of the technetium fraction. Thermal neutron irradiation of the 99Tc fraction to produce 100Tc. Post-irradiation separation and purification of 100Tc from other activated nuclides. Counting of the 16 sec 100Tc in a low-background beta counter. (Author)
