Data Compression in Large Business-Oriented Files.
Abstract
Data compression is of interest in data processing because it offers cost savings and the potential for increased capacity in mass storage devices, channels and communications lines. Data compression techniques are reviewed as they apply to business data files and an implementation of data compression on a business type drum file under severe constraints of core space, execution time, and compression requirements is described.
