Particle Size Reduction in a Jet Mill to Produce Ultrafine Ammonium Perchlorate.

Abstract

Ammonium perchlorate was continuously ground in a 'jet mill' with helium gas and with nitrogen gas for comparison. The highest grinding efficiency and submicron-sized fractions were developed when heated helium was used. Continuous mixing of the ground oxidizer, with the other propellant ingredients dispersed in an inert gas, is proposed in a specially designed mixing tube. (Author)
