General Treatment of Modulation Scanning,
Abstract
The basic principles of scanning sonars employing modulation scanning are described. Using elementary matrix theory a number of methods involving frequency change are evolved including a multistage system of particular relevance to rapid scanning of fine beams over wide sectors. Phasing requirements and limitations due to carrier frequency are examined. (Author)
