Clinical Causes for Grounding.

Abstract

The volume contains an introduction, the papers, and summaries of ensuing discussion at the AGARD/NATO Aerospace Medical Panel Specialist Meeting, held in Oporto, Portugal on 21st - 22nd June 1971. The topic was 'Clinical Causes for Grounding' and the contributions covered both 'General Aspects of Clinical Causes for Grounding in the various Air Forces' and 'Specific Aspects of Grounding according to the Medical Specialties'. Seventy-eight delegates from aeromedical institutes, centers, and establishments attended the meeting, representing 10 NATO nations. There was a valuable exchange of views on the latest results and the approaches adopted by the various nations to this problem area. A highlight of the meeting was the revelation of remarkable differences between nations in their medical standards, requirements, and policies and in their flying classes, categories, and groups. It was recommended that the resultant exchange of information should be a stimulus for further study of this very important aspect both of military aviation medicine and operational capability.
