Problem of the Stability of a Cylindrical Shell Loaded by External Pressure and Axial Compressive Forces,

Abstract

The results of investigating the influence of axial compressive forces on the stability of a cylindrical shell loaded by external pressure are given. It is shown that up to a certain external pressure level the influence of axial compressive forces can be considered by a certain coefficient, given here as a graph. Tests were conducted with two series of shells on the simultaneous action of external pressure and axial compression, on which the authors propose estimating the region of stability for this type of combined loading.
