The Investigation of a Dynamic Experimental Sonar Display.

Abstract

The research conducted under this contract is related to the tasks of detecting, recognizing and classifying underwater acoustical signals received by means of passive underwater sonar equipment. Specifically, the research is aimed at the development and evaluation of a new type of dynamic, visual display that will increase the effectiveness of sonar operators in performing their work tasks. The principle elements of the acoustical-input-to-visual-output transform are an analog ear system and an image generation computer. The report is on analog ear system, a specialized type of multiband spectrum analyzer. (Author)
