Investigation of Shadowgraphs for Use with Highly Ablating, Self-Luminous, Ballistic Projectiles.

Abstract

Two modifications to the existing VKF 1000-ft Hyperballistic Range G spark shadowgraph system which reduce to an acceptable level the undesirable effects of highly ablating, self-luminous projectiles on the shadowgrams have been developed. In addition, an X-ray shadowgraph system is modified with a small lens, the system produces acceptable shadowgrams of moderately ablating projectiles. This modification is extremely economical.
