A Comparative Study of Solution Kinetics of Secondary Phases in Dendritic and Spherical Structures.

Abstract

A detailed study was undertaken of dissolution and of the various parameters on which it depends. The work reported is a comparative study of solution kinetics of Mg7Zn3 in a dendritic Mg-5.1%Zn alloy and a nondendritic grain-refined Mg-5.1%Zn-0.6%Zr alloy. Dissolution is shown to be faster in a spherical structure than in a dendritic structure of the same alloy solidified at the same cooling rate. (Author)
