Existence of a Solution to a Material Optimization Problem in Linear Viscoelasticity.

Abstract

A solution is shown to exist to the problem of determining a linear viscoelastic material which optimizes a defined dynamical behavior of a specific structure. The structure is considered in this paper to be modeled by a single lumped mass and a single viscoelastic element in uniaxial tension, and its motion is to satisfy a number of given constraints and conditions at different strain rates.
