The Physics of Low Energy Ion-Molecule and Charge Transfer Reactions - A Computer Study.

Abstract

The research studied the collision processes involving charged or ionized gas molecules and neutral molecules. Studies of low-energy collisions among atmospheric gases where charge-exchange among the colliding molecules or ions are more frequent were completed. Studies were also made on the development of a computer model that will predict the velocity region for each enhanced chance of charge transfer from charged particle to neutral particle to take place. This research increased our understnding of atmospheric phenomena, communication anomalies and re-entry phenomena. (Author)
