Emission Spectroscopy: A Study of Electrode Materials and Designs.
Abstract
An important consideration for optimum analytical results by emission spectroscopy is the electrode material and the designs into which they are shaped. In atomic excitation by the dc arc, the entry rate of the sample into the arc column is determined by these factors plus the arc current, thus affecting both sensitivity and reproducibility of results. In all excitation methods (dc arc, ac arc, spark, etc.) the quality of the electrode material and dimensional consistency of electrodes are crucial to discharge stability and repeatability of results. Graphite in several of its many forms is used as the electrode material almost to the exclusion of other possible materials because of its unique properties. (Author)
