A Satellite Survey of Vector Electric Fields in the Ionosphere at Frequencies from 10 to 500 Hertz. 1. Isotropic, High Latitude, Low Frequency Emissions.

Abstract

Vector electric fields in the frequency range from 10 to 500 hertz have been measured on the 400 kilometer altitude polar orbiting OV1-17 satellite. Two distinct wave modes have been observed on every orbit and thus are characteristic of the ionosphere at 400 kilometers. The first of these modes is discussed in detail in this paper.
