Two-Body Ion-Ion Neutralization Cross Sections.

Abstract

Two-body neutralization cross sections have been measured for O(+) + O(-), NO(+) + O(-), O(+)2 + O3(-1), Na(+) + O-, O2(+) + O2(-), NO(+) + NO2(-), N2(+) + NO2(-1), NO(+) + NO3(-), O2(+) + NO3(-), H(+) + H(-), H2 + D(-), and He(+) + D(-). The relative energy range covered lies from 0.15 eV to 300 eV except for the He(+) + D(-) system whose energy range is from 30 eV to 400 eV. The data for these systems, excepting He(+) + D(-), have been extrapolated and thermally averaged to yield reaction rates at 300K. Atomic ion-ion neutralization cross sections have been calculated for some systems using a multistate Landau-Zener method. The agreement between theoretical and experimental results is generally within a factor of 2. (Author)
