Feasibility Study of a Computer Aided Program to Guide the Straightening Process of Gun Tubes.

Abstract

The present cold bending process of gun tubes to achieve the desirable straightness is by a trial and error process. This process is time consuming and laborious. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of using a computer aided program to guide the straightening process of gun tubes based on a semi-empirical model. In turn, an analytical prediction model, based on simple theory and assumptions adjusted to fit experimental data, was developed. Some of the problems involved in the tube bending process were examined. (Author)
