A Comparative Analysis of Flat-Panel Display Technology for Fixed-Format Applications.

Abstract

An analysis has been made to assess the merits of a number of different technologies that are being proposed as means for developing flat-panel display devices. The specific technologies considered include plasma display panels, light-emitting diodes, electroluminescent films, liquid crystals, and digital-address flat cathode-ray tubes. This analysis is limited to a fixed-format display capability. Qualitative ratings and descriptions for display parameters of interest are presented in a matrix chart form that permits a comparison to be made between the technologies reviewed. A discussion of the parameters and properties under consideration points out both the merits and shortcoming of each particular approach. (Author)
