An Algorithm for Terminal Air Traffic Control

Abstract

By appropriate definition of the air-space geometry in the near terminal area, a deterministic terminal control system was designed. The system proposed is an open loop automatic control system that dictates, for each aircraft, nominal trajectories in the near terminal area. The main advantage of such a system is that it frees the controller from routine decision making. He can act as an ultimate decision maker, correcting for errors that might occur, and taking charge in case of an emergency.
