Research in Computer-Aided Translation, Russian to English.

Abstract

The research included ambiguity and homography in the Russian language, in order to facilitate the coding of Russian word forms for a machine translation (MT) dictionary. The coding category 'word class' does not have a unique value for each Russian word, and the types of homographs (i.e. the combinations of word classes necessary to describe ambiguous forms) in the Russian language are listed in the report. For each homograph type, a list is given of the words (or the word) of that type. Sometimes the list is complete; at other times it contains only a subset of the words of that type. The MT system programs which were rewritten in order that they may be run on the IBM System/360 are described. (Author)
