The Direct Synthesis of a Bimetallic Carborane Complex by Polyhedral Expansion of a Monometallocarborane.

Abstract

Reduction of B8C2H10CoC5H5 by sodium naphthalide in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of Na(+)C5H5(-) and CoC(2) yield a complex B8C2H10(CoC5H5)2. The compound was characterized by (1)H and (11)B nmr, mass spectra, and elemental analysis. Structures consistent with the nmr data are discussed in which the two Co(III) atoms and the B8C2H10(4-)ion complete an icosahedron. (Author)
