Temperature and Salinity Distributions in Vertical Sections along the Longitudinal Axis and across the Entrace of the Chespeake Bay (April 1968 to March 1969).

Abstract

Beginning in April, 1968, the Chesapeake Bay Institute vessel RIDGELY WARFIELD obtained regular monthly sections of temperature and salinity across the entrace to the Chesapeake Bay and along the deep water channel for the entire length of the Bay (approximately 167 nautical miles). The data from the first twelve of these monthly surveys has been used to construct vertical sections of temperature and salinity along the longitudinal axis of the Bay and in the cross-sections at the entrace to the Bay. Each of the longitudinal sections was constructed using data which was obtained on a single day's run along the axis of the Bay, following as closely as possible the motion of the slack-before-flood point on the tidal cycle as it progressed from the entrace to the head of the Bay. This procedure yielded temperature and salinity sections having a minimal distortion from tidal effects. (Author)
