Project Pre-Gondola: Site-Selection Investigations.

Abstract

Project Pre-Gondola is planned as a three-phase chemical explosive cratering experiment in weak, saturated shale. This investigation was initiated to locate a site within the continental United States which met specified geologic, terrain, operational and safety criteria. This report describes the procedures followed, summarizes the results of intermediate stages of the investigation, and provides the basic geologic and engineering characteristics of the selected and alternate sites.
