Review of Soils Design, Construction and Performance Observations Overbank Structure, Old River Control.

Abstract

The report is one of a number of similar reports on studies of the soils design, construction, and behavior of recently completed flood-control and navigation structures constructed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Lower Mississippi Valley Division. The purposes of these studies are to compare field experience and performance of the structures with design predictions, and from such comparisons and observations, to gain information and experience that will be useful in the design and construction of future projects in the Lower Mississippi Vallley Division. This report contains a brief review of the soils and foundation studies made in connection with the design of the overbank structure, a description of pertinent features of construction, an analysis and evaluation of observations made during and after construction, and conclusions and recommendations.
