The Application of Group Theory to the Calculation of the Influence of an Electric Field on the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectrum in Ruby.

Abstract

Group theory was used to study the effect of a homogeneous electric field on the EPR spectrum of ruby. By taking into consideration only geometrical symmetry and the symmetry connected with time reversal, the author was able to characterize the electric field effect by six constants. This result is in agreement with the experimental results of Royce and Bloembergen.
