Stilling Basin, Huntington Reservoir Spillway, Wabash River, Indiana: Hydraulic Model Investigation,

Abstract

Tests were conducted on a 1:60-scale section model of the Huntington Reservoir spillway to assist in development of the most economic energy dissipator which would provide reasonably good dissipation at low and intermediate flows and safe conditions at a flow of 98,000 cfs (80 percent of the spillway design flood). A 130-ft-long horizontal apron with one row of baffle piers and an end sill met the above requirements and was recommended for use in the prototype.
