Preshot Geologic Investigations, Project SULKY, Buckboard Mesa, Nevada Test Site,

Abstract

A comprehensive geologic and engineering investigation was undertaken at the site on Buckboard Mesa selected for the SULKY event, a planned nuclear cratering experiment to be conducted in dry basalt. Foundation conditions were determined by six borings: one centrally located, 6-inch-diameter boring to a depth of 80 feet and five NX-size holes ranging in depth from 59 to 212 feet. (Author)
