Deep Towed Hydrophone Array.

Abstract

The report describes a new and simplified system for towing a hydrophone array at great depths from a surface vessel. When used in conjunction with deep fired explosives or other deep transitting sources, the array becomes an effective receiver for the long range deep echo ranging system thus formed. Two cruises have demonstrated the system to be effective for bottom survey work, and returns from targets over ranges up to 250 miles or more have been recorded. (Author)
