Decoding of Binary Product Codes,

Abstract

For data transmission through noisy channels, product code has been well-known for its high performance in the correction of both bursts and random errors. Although many works have been done in regard to the decoding of product codes, few satisfactory results have been obtained. While most decoding methods have limited applicability, the most general one does not appear to be practical. In the report, the author attempts to extend the capability of N. Abramson's cascade decoder on binary product codes so as to provide a fairly practical decoding scheme to a large class of product codes. A brief discussion on the error-correction ability of the code is also included. (Author)
