A Class of Non-Isothermal Viscoelastic Fluids,

Abstract

The paper is concerned mainly with non-isothermal constitutive equations and related thermodynamical results for a class of simple fluids with fading memory. The development is partly motivated by a 'flow-like' behavior of some organic polymers at a sufficiently high temperature and can also be regarded as the counterpart of (and supplementary to) an earlier study of a class of viscoelastic solids. Special cases of our general results pertaining to a finite linear theory and an incompressible viscoelastic fluid, as well as the relationship of the stress constitutive equation in the latter case with the corresponding result for materials of differential type, are discussed.
