The Calculation of the Surface Backscattering Coefficient of Underwater Sound from Measured Data.

Abstract

The prediction of sonar performance requires valid models for propagation and reverberation of sound. The report describes an improved technique for determining surface backscattering coefficients from field data. High precision, compared with conventional methods of backscattering analysis, has been achieved by taking into account the temperature-profile and volume-scattering profile. (Author)
