Development of Chalcopyrite Crystals for Nonlinear Optical Applications

Abstract

During the first year, the chalcopyrite growth effort was directed at a single compound, DdGeAs2. The potential applications of this crystal in nonlinear optics is now fully evaluated. The report describes the growth of a new chalcopyrite compound CdGeP2, another potentially very useful nonlinear crystal. The choice of CdGeP2 was made after a study of all the II-IV-V2 chalcopyrites, estimating the optical properties from the measured properties of the III-V analogs. The results of this study are included in Appendix I.
