Models for Message Transmissions and Interference-Caused Retransmission through a Multi-Channel Satellite Communications System.

Abstract

A satellite communication system has been proposed for use in improving naval communications. This system would feature random selection of channels by originators. An expression is developed for the probability that a specified number of messages, s, of n original messages, will be received successfully after being transmitted a number of times, m. An expression is derived for the probability that a specified number of messages, j, of n original messages, will be received successfully on the first transmission by some arbitrary time, t. A Monte Carlo computer simulation is conducted and is the basis for expressions for the maximum number of times any unit would have to transmit to be received successfully. (Author)
