Automated Instructional Monitors for Complex Operational Tasks.

Abstract

The report describes research on computer-based instructional techniques incorporating diagnosis of student difficulties in acquiring complex concepts and skills. A computer automatically generates a simulated display. It then monitors and analyzes a student's work in the performance of assigned training tasks -- hypotheses describing specific learning difficulties are tested and appropriate advice is given. Two major task areas were studied. Implications for the development of improved methods of behavior modification and their incorporation in training programs are discussed. (Author)
