Polycyanovinyl, Dicyanomethylenecarbene, and Dicyanomethylene Derivatives of Metal Carbonyls.

Abstract

The first polycyanovinyl, dicyanomethylenecarbene, and dicyanomethylene metal carbonyl derivatives are reported. Reactions of the polycyanovinyl halides (NC)2C = CHCl, (NC)2C = C(CN)Cl, and (NC)2C = CCl2 with the metal carbonyl anions Mn(CO)5n(-) and C5H5M(CO)3n(-) (M = Mo and W) in tetrahydrofuran solution gives the polycyanovinyl metal carbonyl derivatives (NC)2C = C(X)Mn(CO)5(X = H, Cl and CN) and (NC)2C = C(X)M(CO)3C5H5(M = Mo and W; X = H, Cl and CN), respectively. Reaction of (NC)2C = CCl2 with NaFe(CO2C5H5 gives a low yield of the cis- and trans-isomers of the dicyanomethylenecarbene derivative (C5H5)2Fe2(CO)3(C = C(CN)2). Reaction of Br2C(CN)2 with NaFe(CO)2C5H5 gives low yields of the dicyanomethyl derivative and the dicyanomethylene derivative. Some of the more interesting features of the infrared and n.m.r. spectra of these new cyanocarbon derivatives are described. (Author)
