Factors Influencing the Performance of Corrosion Inhibiting Systems,

Abstract

A correlation is shown between aluminium corrosion prevention and the chromate leaching rates of primers, and possible minima for protection are suggested. An improved cell method has been developed for determining these leaching rates. The effects on chromate leaching of various formulation perameters and environmental factors - such pH, moisture, contamination - were also investigated. The permeabilities of three finishes to water and water vapour have been determined. The effects of the finishes on leaching and on corrosion prevention are described. Limited work has been done on the inhibition of some galvanic couples and of magnesium in brine solutions. (Author)
