Specific Adsorption of Trifluoromethanesulfonate on Mercury (A). Ion Transport, Spontaneous Oscillations and Electrochemical Modeling (B). I. General and Equilibrium Considerations.

Abstract

In the first report, the specific adsorption of trifluoromethanesulfonate on mercury is studied with capacitance measurements, using mixtures with NaF at a constant ionic strength of 0.66 M. In the second report, the general equation for movement of ions of one king through planar membranes and its equilibrium solutions are reviewed. A simple procedure to obtain numerical solutions is presented, and results are displayed as profiles of potential, field and concentration across the membrane. Finally, useful approximations for very low and very high ionic concentrations are given, and the limits of the constant-field approximation are indicated. (Author)
