Water Outflow Close to Bottom from the Aegean,

Abstract

In the report the authors conclude that there exists a current flowing out of the Aegean Sea, close to the bottom. The water flows across a profile between the Turkish coast and the Island of Rhodes. In the southern part of the channel close to Rhodes coast the current flow was found in the whole column of water decreasing northward. A weaker current was found in the passage between Crete and Scarpanto. This current was also outflowing from the Aegean Sea. Direct current measurements will be carried out in these areas during future cruises. (Author)
