Instability of Spherical Caps and Complete Spheres

Abstract

The report is concerned with the instability behavior of spherical shells for which, so far as can be traced from a broad literature survey, no application of this technique has been considered. Moreover, it is an area in which the scatter between experimental results is normally great and in which there is still considerable analytical effort being made. The report demonstrates that the Southwell Plot approach gives an interpretation of experimental data which is consistent with the findings of small displacement computations.
