Constitutive Matrix and Finite Element Formulation for a Deformation Theory of Plasticity.

Abstract

The report is concerned with three general approaches in the finite element formulation of small strain plasticity problems, using the Hencky-Nadai deformation theory as a mathematical model for the material behavior. The finite stress-strain matrix due to Havner is adapted into the secant modulus or direct-iterative approach. Two quasei-linear incremental forms of constitutive matrix are derived. An explicit relation is also given for the calculation of plastic strain increments in the incremental-initial strain approach. Particular attention is given to the finite element formulation using a combined moduli approach. A close similarity between two types of plasticity theories is shown. (Author)
