Experience in the Debugging of an Automated Information Retrieval System (IRS) for Electrical Engineering,

Abstract

First, the center was reorganized as an independent subdivision; and second, in order to reduce the Minsk-22's downtime, reorganization and retraining of computer operators and electricians were carried out. This program was successful - in the first six months of 1968, only 44 hours of downtime were due to machine breakdowns. Next, changes were made in the structure of the center in accordance with the following basic principles: separation of experimental and routine work, and the organization of a dispatcher service as the core for automatic indexing. Finally, the indexing process itself was analyzed in detail and, based on this analysis, a preliminary system to process 200 documents a week was set up and then tested. (Author)
