Method of Solving the Nonlinear Planetary Problem of the Long-Range Forecasting of Meteorological Elements,
Abstract
During hydrodynamic studies of atmospheric movements on a planetary scale, in the construction of a hydrodynamic theory of long-range weather forecasting and a theory of climate, in the practice of long-range forecasting the method of linearization of equations of hydrodynamics with respect to purely zone motion is widely used. In most cases the corresponding linear problem have a precise analytical solution and therefore are free from the accululation of errors which frequently accompany the approximate finite-difference solutions to nonlinear problems. Recently the authors succeeded in finding some precise particular solutions of prognostic nonlinear problems. These nonlinear solutions can be used for the construction of a new method of calculation, in which the advantages of having the analytical solutions are combined with the refinement of description of the physics of the process because of the consideration of nonlinearity.
