Sound Transmission from Deep to Shallow Water,

Abstract

Using sonobuous and aircraft, the researchers obtained measurements of sound transmission from deep water to shallow water. The transmission was found to be surprisingly good, both for sound sources on the axis of the deep sound channel, for which a near-optimum bottom slope condition existed, and for shallow sources for which no all-water propagation paths were possible.
