Semi-Homogeneous Technologies (Revised and Extended).

Abstract

Suggested by Eichhorn's generalization of scalar valued homogeneous production functions, a new class of technologies (production correspondences) is defined and developed to show the axioms suitable for the input and output correspondences u approaches L(u) and x approaches P(x) of such technologies. If both input and output structure satisfy the properties assumed, the technology is shown to be simply homogeneous, justifying the terminology semi-homogeneous. It is shown how semi-homogeneous structures may be used to provide a more general form of laws of return than that obtainable by assuming simple homogeneity. (Author)
