Review of Needs for Geological Research in Fine-Grained Deposits of the Lower Mississippi Valley,

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to review the needs for geological research in fine-grained deposits of the Lower Mississippi Valley, along directions which have engineering applicability, and to indicate suggested future studies. Engineering applicability is taken to include improved criteria for areal mapping and reconnaissance for engineering site selection, criteria for interpreting and correlating sedimentological and structural conditions at foundation sites, and for recognition of probable influences which mineralogy, age, hydrologic conditions, geologic history, etc., have on the physical properties of soils.
